Clear concepts

What does transferring a domain actually mean?

It means changing the registrar that manages your domain while keeping the same name and the same owner. Your web address does not change: only who administers it.

  • Your domain name is never modified
  • The owner is still your company, with the same details
  • The registration years you already paid are not lost
  • Your website, email and subdomains keep working
  • It has no impact on your search engine ranking

Before you start

What you need to have ready

Four quick checks. If any of them is missing, we tell you how to solve it before starting the transfer.

  • Domain older than 60 days Generic domains (.com, .net, .org) cannot be transferred within 60 days of registration or of a previous transfer.
  • Domain unlocked Your current provider must remove the transfer lock from their management panel.
  • Authorization code (EPP) This is the key that authorizes the registrar change. You request it from your current provider, usually by email.
  • Owner email reachable The WHOIS record must contain a valid address: that is where the transfer confirmation arrives.
Step by step

How to migrate your domain to Cloud2EU

Five steps. We handle the technical part; you simply approve and confirm.

  1. 01
    Initial review

    We analyse your current domain

You tell us which domain you want to transfer and we review its real situation before touching anything.

    • We check registration date, expiry and locks
    • We inventory website, email, subdomains and certificates
    • We confirm timings and requirements in writing
    Done by Cloud2EU
  2. 02
    Authorization

You get the EPP code and unlock

This is the only step that depends on your current provider. We send you specific instructions and, if you prefer, we handle it together with you.

    • You request the authorization code (EPP / AuthCode)
    • You ask to remove the transfer lock
    • You verify the owner email is working
    You, with our help
  3. 03
    Preparation

    We replicate your DNS configuration

Before moving the domain we prepare an exact copy of your records on our servers. This is the step that prevents any downtime.

    • A, AAAA and CNAME records for website and subdomains
    • MX, SPF, DKIM and DMARC for corporate email
    • SSL certificates and existing redirects
    Done by Cloud2EU
  4. 04
    Execution

We launch the transfer and you confirm it

We start the request with the EPP code. The registry sends a confirmation email to the domain owner: once accepted, the transfer starts.

    • Request submitted to the corresponding registry
    • You confirm the owner approval email
    • Status tracking until it is accepted
    Cloud2EU and you
  5. 05
    Verification

We verify everything and hand over control

Once the domain is with Cloud2EU we review service by service and give you a summary of the final configuration.

    • Website reachable and SSL certificate validated
    • Email sending and receiving tests
    • Renewals and expiry alerts activated

Continuity

Why you will not notice the change

A poorly planned transfer takes the website down or sends email to spam. We work the other way round: first we replicate, then we move, and we always verify.

  • Exact copy of the DNS records before starting the transfer
  • TTL tuning so changes propagate quickly
  • MX and email authentication review before and after
  • Transfer status monitoring until completion
  • One technical contact throughout the whole process
Timings

How long a transfer takes

Timings are set by the registry of each extension, not by us. These are the usual durations.

.com · .net · .org 5 to 7 days

It speeds up if you confirm the approval email as soon as you receive it.

.es 1 to 3 days

Managed through Red.es, with validation of the owner details.

.eu · others Registry dependent

Each territorial extension has its own rules: we confirm the timing before we start.

During all that time your website and email keep working normally: the transfer is administrative and services are already replicated.

Frequent questions

Questions about the transfer

Will my website or email go down during the transfer?

No, as long as the configuration is replicated before the change starts, which is exactly how we work. We copy your DNS records to our servers, check that everything responds and only then launch the transfer.

Do I lose the years I have already paid for?

No. For generic domains the transfer adds one year of registration to your remaining period, so you never lose contracted time.

What is the EPP code and how do I get it?

It is the authorization key proving you are allowed to move the domain. Your current provider issues it from their panel or by email; if you do not know where to ask, we prepare the request text for you.

Can I transfer several domains at once?

Yes. It is very common in companies with several brands or extensions. We plan the whole portfolio and transfer them in an orderly way, in blocks, to keep control at all times.

Does the transfer affect my SEO ranking?

No. The domain and its content do not change: only the registrar that manages it. As long as the website keeps responding the same way, search engines see no difference.

What if my domain is about to expire?

Tell us as soon as possible. If only a few days remain it is better to renew it with the current provider and transfer afterwards, to avoid the registry rejecting the request.

Does the domain remain my company's property?

Always. The registered owner is your company and it stays that way after the transfer. Cloud2EU only appears as the technical contact and service manager.

Shall we start transferring your domain?

Tell us which domains you have and with which provider. We review their status and give you concrete timings and steps, with no commitment.
